Kenyon's second-half trifecta sinks DU

Box Score

Despite taking a 1-0 lead in the opening two minutes of play, Kenyon struck back in the second half with three goals in a 10 minute span.  That surge would be enough to send the Lords to a 3-2 North Coast Athletic Conference victory over the Big Red on Wednesday from Mavec Field in Gambier, Ohio.

DU hit the soccer equivalent of a lead-off home run when Bob Casarona found the back of the net just 1:51 into the contest.  Playing through rain which was heavy at certain times, the 1-0 lead would stand until the 63rd minute when Kenyon's Grant Carney slotted a pass to Andrew Parmelee for the tying goal.

Just over two minutes later, Kenyon's Jeremiah Barnes put the Lords on top, 2-1.  Their lead would grow to 3-1 in the 73rd minute when Parmelee struck again, this time off a pass from Cameron Scott.

The offensive explosion would continue three minutes later when Denison's Kyle Skinner scored off an assist from Jake Marsh.

Over the final 14 minutes, Denison did force two more corner kicks, and with 8:30 left, Mark Waterman sent a shot on goal that was turned away by Kenyon keeper, Sam Clougher.

Denison and Kenyon tied with five shots apiece in the first half, but the Lords outshot DU 9-4 over the final 45 minutes of play.  The Big Red held an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.  Clougher finished with five saves while Denison goalkeeper Matt Wagner ended with two.

Kenyon improves to 10-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the NCAC with the victory.  Denison drops to 9-2-2 and 2-2 in conference play.  DU will host The College of Wooster this Saturday (Oct. 19) at 4 p.m. from Barclay-Thomsen Field.
