Box Score Denison battled North Coast Athletic Conference rival Kenyon to a scoreless draw at Barclay-Thomsen Field on Saturday afternoon in Granville.
Through 45 minutes of play, Denison held a slim 6-4 edge in shots. In the 75th minute, the Big Red had their first serious scoring threat. After a Kenyon defender slipped on the turf, junior Bob Casarona found an open lane to the net. Despite having her first attempt blocked down, the junior quickly came back with a second attempt that forced Lords keeper James Smith to make a diving stop.
At the end of regulation, the two squads remained deadlocked. In the 96th minute, Kenyon's J.J. Jemison broke through the DU defense and found himself one-on-one with junior goalie Matt Wagner. Wagner challenged Jemison and kicked aside his shot to keep it a scoreless affair.
Casarona logged the only shot in the second overtime as the Big Red and Lords finished with a draw for just the ninth time in the 64-match history of the rivalry.
DU held a 14-13 edge in shots, including a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal. The Big Red attempted 11 of the game's 17 corner kicks, while the Lords committed 19 of the 35 fouls.
The Denison attack was led by Casarona's five shots, while Jemison posted four attempts for Kenyon. Wagner made two stops on the afternoon, while Smith turned aside four shots on net.
Denison moves to 4-3-2 on the year and 0-1-1 in the NCAC, while Kenyon's record shifts to 4-3-1 and 0-0-1 in league play. The Big Red returns to action on Tuesday when they host Wilmington at 7 p.m.
