The Denison men's tennis team improved to 5-0 on the season following a 7-2 victory over Division II Kutztown on Thursday in Hilton Head, S.C.
In their first appearance at the No. 1 doubles, senior Tim Martin and freshman Shankar Rajupet edged the Bears' Rushi Amin and Matthew Maguire 9-8. The Denison doubles team secured the win with a 10-4 victory in the tiebreaker. The decision gave the Big Red a 2-1 lead at the end of doubles competition.
The other doubles win went to sophomores Jay Fovel and Juan Guerra. The tandem logged an 8-4 decision over Kenny Beebe and Darren Krout at third doubles.
Guerra also picked up a straight-set win over Varun Desai (6-3, 6-1) at the No. 1 singles. Senior Tyler Cempre had an impressive showing in singles action. Cempre won a 6-4, 6-2 decision over Maguire at the third flight.
For the second-consecutive day, Andrew Marczak picked up a straight-set victory (6-1, 6-4), while Cam Williams and Alex Conn were winners at the fifth and sixth singles, respectively. Williams won a three-set thriller over Ben Nace (6-7 [4-7], 6-1, 11-9), while Conn won with matching 6-3 scores.
Denison closes out its spring trip on Friday against Connecticut College. Match time is slated for 11:30 a.m.
