Bishops beat the clock in win over DU

Box Score

Colton Bloecher's goal with two seconds remaining in regulation sent No. 23 Ohio Wesleyan past Denison, 2-1 on Friday night in Delaware, Ohio.

After the two teams played the first half scoreless, Denison took a 1-0 lead in the 69th minute when Corey Ricketts connected on a shot attempt from 25-yards out.  The goal was the first of the season for Ricketts.

Denison held on to that one goal lead until the 87th minute when Martin Tobias scored off a assist by Matt Shadoan.  The Battling Bishops would regain possession after the goal and quickly force a corner kick, keeping pressure on the Big Red.  While OWU's corner attempt failed they would beat the final buzzer as Bloecher dove and headed in a cross from Mason Hoge that went off the glove of Denison goalkeeper, Matt Wagner.

It was a abrupt ending for the Big Red, who had successfully kept the potent Battling Bishop offense off the scoreboard for 86 minutes.  OWU did hold a 20-14 advantage in shot attempts and Wagner posted six saves for Denison while Paul Hendricks finished with four saves for Ohio Wesleyan.

Senior Ryan Torgersen led DU with six shot attempts with three going on-goal.  Bloecher paced Ohio Wesleyan with seven shot attempts, four of which ended up on-frame.

Denison's 2012 season comes to a close with a record of 8-7-2 while Ohio Wesleyan advances to the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a 13-2-3 mark.
