Denison blanks Wooster; extends winning streak

Box Score

After suffering a one-goal loss in their North Coast Athletic Conference opener on Sept. 25, the Denison men's soccer team has rebounded with four-consecutive victories to improve to 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC.  The Big Red's most recent win came in Wooster, Ohio as the Big Red blanked the College of Wooster 3-0 on Saturday afternoon.

In the opening frame, senior Ish Ghodbane (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 37th minute.  After a corner kick was volleyed out, Ghodbane settled the ball and unloaded a shot into the upper right 90 for the game's first goal.  The tally was the senior's first of the season.  Roughly six minutes later, the Big Red's lead doubled when a defensive miscue resulted in a Wooster own goal.

Early in the second period, rookie Bob Casarona (South Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) ultimately put the game out of reach with a goal off an assist by Ghodbane in the 57th minute.  Casarona ripped a shot from the left end line into the far right corner for his third of the 2010 campaign.

First-year goalkeepers Matt Wagner (Nicholasville, Ky./Lexington Catholic) and John Huddleston (Ballwin, Mo./St. Louis University) combined for the shutout win.  Wagner made two saves en route to his fifth victory of the season.

Denison returns to the field next Saturday (Oct. 16) when they host the Gators of Allegheny College.  Match time from Barclay-Thomsen Field is slated for 2:30 p.m.
