Box Score Denison University's five-match winning streak came to an end on Wednesday night as the Yeomen of Oberlin College scored two unanswered goals en route to a 2-1 victory in Oberlin, Ohio.
The Big Red opened the scoring in the 13th minute when first-year Bob Casarona (South Russell, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) took a near side pass from Ben Peek (Burke, Va./Robinson Secondary) and found the back of the net. The goal was Casarona's fourth of the season and gave Denison the early 1-0 advantage. At 20:16, Oberlin's Wyatt Hayman netted the equalizer off a corner kick from Oliver Miller-Farrel. Denison held a 5-4 edge in shots at the intermission, while each team attempted three corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, the Yeomen took their only lead of the match when Miller-Farrel took a crossing pass from Evan Atwell, and fired the ball past DU goalie Matt Wagner (Nicholasville, Ky./ Lexington Catholic) in the 53rd minute. The OC defense held the Big Red in check as DU attempted just three shots in the second period.
Oberlin outshot Denison 14-8, while the Big Red held the advantage in both shots on goal (5-4) and corner kicks (6-3). Wagner made two saves, while Zach Lipshultz stopped four shots for the Yeomen.
Denison falls to 8-6 on the year and 3-2 in the NCAC, while Oberlin improves to 6-8-1 and 3-1-1 in the conference. DU returns to action on Saturday (Oct. 23) when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan University. Match time is slated for 7:30 p.m.
