John Carroll University scored once in the first half and made the most of their limited opportunities in the second half en route to a 3-0 victory over the Denison men's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first half DU came out in the second half and were clearly the aggressor on offense, outshooting the Blue Streaks 9-3 over the final 45 minutes. During that span Denison's offense sent three shots on goal and had two shots hit the post and one bang off the cross bar. As unlucky as the Big Red were in the second half, JCU capitalized on their transition attempts thanks to goals by Kyle Buxman and Joe Ciacchi.
Denison outshot John Carroll 15-9 and dominated corner kicks 9-2. They were led by Ryan Torgersen's (Spring, Texas/Klein) four attempts. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) notched two saves while Blue Streak keeper Mike Telzrow posted four saves.
DU falls to 4-3-1 overall while JCU improves to 6-1-2. The Big Red will return to the pitch on Saturday when they open North Coast Athletic Conference play in Crawfordsville, Ind. against Wabash College.
