The Denison men's soccer team suffered their first setback of 2009 after dropping a 1-0 decision in double overtime to Dickinson College on Saturday afternoon in Carlisle, Pa.
After 100 minutes of scoreless soccer, the Red Devils wasted no time ending the match. Just 1:55 into the second extra session Nicolas Tierno found the back of the net.
Dickinson held a 17-6 edge in shot, which included an 11-1 advantage in shots on goal. Junior Ish Ghodbane (St. Louis, Mo./Ladue Horton Watkins) paced the DU attack with two shots, including the lone shot on goal.
The Big Red attempted four corners compared to the Red Devils three. Big Red senior goalie Kevin Donahue (Riverside, Conn./Greenwich) made a season-high 10 saves on the day, while Jame Van Meerbeke stopped the only shot he faced.
The loss drops Denison to 3-1-1 on the year, while Dickinson improves to a perfect 4-0. The Big Red return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 16) when they host Capital University at 7 p.m.
