Big Red Win Seventh Annual Bob Shannon Invitational

Granville, Ohio - In the seventh annual Bob Shannon Invitational, the women's track and field team took home a narrow victory against tough competition ranging from Division II to NAIA. The Big Red finished with 95 total points, while Case Western Reserve University was right behind with 94, followed by Mount Vernon Nazarene (75), Waynesburg (61), and Muskingum (55) to round out the top-five. Both relay teams earned first place finishes, and multiple Big Red earned top-three finishes.

Sprints/Distance

Sophomore Mira Renaldi took first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.12. It is her second top-three finish and earned 10 points. In the 60-meter dash, senior Emily Brennan finished with a personal-best of 8.00 to earn second place and eight points. First-year Ryan Singer finished sixth with a time of 8.21 to pick up three points. Junior Piper Lee placed fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:03.54 for five points. Three Big Red picked up points in the 800-meter run, as first-year Shaylee Murdough (2:23.54) placed third, sophomore Jane McNamara (2:26.84) placed fourth, and first-year Amelia Anderson (2:27.40) placed sixth to gain 14 total points for the Big Red. In the 3k, another trio of Big Red notched points, as sophomore Floralysse Biteau finished fourth with a time of 11:17.27, and Brett Rose Castro finished sixth with a time of 11:24.06. First-year Serafina Lavallee finished seventh with a time of 11:27.06, and the Big Red picked up nine points in the event.

In the relays, the Big Red picked up first place wins in the 4x200 and 4x400. In the 4x400, the quartet of Bischak, Murdough, Brennan, and Renaldi finished with a time of 4:08.00 to place first and pick up 10 points. In the 4x200, Lee, Brennan, Bischak, and Renaldi finished first with a time of 1:47.33.

Field Events

First-year Marisa Bianchi continues to impress with a new personal-best in the triple jump with a mark of 10.36m (34-0) to win the event, and earned 10 points for the Big Red. Senior Sydney Flores took second in shot put with a throw of 12.45m (40-10.25) for eight points, while first-year Ryan Singer placed ninth with a throw of 9.83m (32-3). Bianchi took fourth in the long jump with a mark of 4.66m (15-3.5) to gain five points for the Big Red. Junior Mariel Drost finished seventh in the weight throw with a mark of 13.25m (43-5.75) for two points.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will head to Westerville, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University next Saturday, February 14.
