Denison Earns Top Three Finish at Seventh Annual Bob Shannon Invitational

Granville, Ohio - The Big Red men's track and field team carved out a second place finish at the seventh annual Bob Shannon Invitational. Denison finished with 83 points, with Case Western Reserve University finishing first (108) and Mount Vernon Nazarene finishing third (76.50). NCAC foes Wooster (56.50) and Ohio Wesleyan (56) finished behind the Big Red to round out the top-five. The day was highlighted by the 4x400 relay team and new personal-bests to rally the team to a top-three finish.

Sprints/Distance

Sophomore Jake McCann had an impressive showing in the 60-meter dash, placing first with a blistering time of 7.01 and a new personal-best. A trio of Big Red first-years earned points in the 800-meter run, as William Fontana won the event with a personal-best time of 2:03.19. Sebastian Klimchak (2:06.70) and Oliver Horsley (2:06.89) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Denison had two first-years place in the top-three in the 60-meter hurdles, with Wade Nguyen placing second with a personal-best time of 8.87 for eight points and Martin finishing third with a time of 9.02 for six points. First-year Sebastian Klimchak and sophomore Jacob Brechbill had top-10 finishes in the 1-mile, with Klimchak placing fifth with a time of 4:38.12 for four points, while Brechbill placed seventh with a time of 4:40.98 for two points. In the 400-meter dash, junior Jason Rideout finished seventh with a time of 53.307 for three points. First-year Wilson White was right behind, finishing eighth with a time of 53.308, .001 second behind Rideout. First-year Elias Vail finished eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.64 to pick up a point. 

In the 4x400 relay, Denison picked up another first place finish, as Jack Meyerowitz, Caleb Zell- Ratner, White, and McCann finished with a time of 3:26.86, seven seconds faster than second place, to earn 10 points.

Field Events

Junior Reed Nobili finished fifth with a personal-best mark of 13.84m (45-5) for four points in the weight throw. Junior Justin King finished ninth in shot put for one point with a mark of 13.67m (44-10.25). Nobili finished right behind King with a throw of 13.57m (44-6.25) to finish 10th. Sophomore Joe Teates finished top-five in the pole vault with a mark of 3.95m (12-11.50) for four points.

Up Next for the Big Red

Denison will head to Westerville, Ohio to compete in the All-Ohio Championships at Otterbein University next Saturday, February 14.
