Denison Sits Fifth After Day One of NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships

Springfield, Ohio - Propelled by a first place finish by Mariel Drost and a second place spot in long jump, the Big Red hang in the middle of the pack on day one of the NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Multiple Big Red had career days and climbed up the rankings in the school record book, with sophomore Mira Renaldi breaking the 60-meter hurdle mark yet again. John Carroll currently leads with 52 points followed by DePauw (50), Wittenberg (46), Ohio Wesleyan (41), and the Big Red in fifth with 35.

The day was highlighted by a first-place finish from junior Mariel Drost in the weight throw, who on her last throw produced a personal-best and bested her mark from last year's championships by 1.65m. The throw also placed her second all-time in Denison history in the weight throw, and gained 10 points for the Big Red.

Sophomore Emery Kurth produced a personal-best in the long jump with a mark of 5.50m and gained eight points for the Big Red. Her jump now ranks second all-time in the Denison record books. Renaldi flashed once again in the 60-meter hurdles, placing third with another school-record time of 8.92 heading into the finals tomorrow.

The 4,000-meter distance relay was the last event the Big Red medaled in, as the quartet of Hanna Hack, Piper Lee, Jane McNamara, and Shaylee Murdough placed third with a time of 12:24.93 to rack up six points to end day one for Denison. The time would also rank second in the Big Red record books.

Denison heads back tomorrow for day two with field events starting at 10 am and running events beginning at 2:30 pm.
