Springfield, Ohio - Senior Sydney Flores capped off a second place finish in shot put to lead the Denison women's track and field team at the Wittenberg Invite hosted by Wittenberg University. The team went up against competition across all divisions and several institutions. The Big Red finished up their last event before gearing up for the NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Sprints/Distance Events
In the 200-meter dash, first-year Ryan Singer had a personal-best time of 26.70 to finish 12th, while sophomore Norah O'Malley also had a personal-best time of 28.07. Sophomore Lauren Perretta finished 26th in the 3000-meter run with a time of 12:35.71. Junior Abby McChesney finished 29th in the 400-meter dash with a time 1:06.31, and first-year Stevie Combs finished 19th with a personal-best time of 8.27 in the 60-meter dash.
Field Events
Senior Sydney Flores highlighted the field events, as she finished second with a throw of 12.38m. Also in shot put, first-year Gabrielle Turner finished sixth with a personal-best mark of 11.64m. Junior Mariel Drost placed 11th in weight throw with a throw of 13.55m, while Turner clocked in another personal-best with a mark of 12.94m to earn 15th place. In pole vault, sophomore Evie Sparks finished 20th with a mark of 2.61m, while O'Malley tallied another personal-best in the long jump, jumping 4.78m for 20th.
Up Next for the Big Red
Denison will head back to Wittenberg University for the NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships next week from February 27-28.
