Women’s Track and Field Win Fighting Scots Invitational Tri-Meet

Wooster, Ohio - The Denison women's track and field team won the Fighting Scots Invitational this afternoon at The College of Wooster against NCAC foes Kenyon and host Wooster. The Big Red finished with 89 points, while the Fighting Scots had 84, and the Owls with 76. The win was highlighted with personal-bests across multiple events and various first place finishes.

Sprints/Distance

Senior Emily Brennan set a personal-best and first place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.06 for seven points. Not far behind was sophomore Mira Renaldi, who set a personal-best as well with a time of 8.25 for third place and four points. Renaldi grabbed first in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 9.22. First-year Arialyn Bischak continues to impress, as she won the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.48 for seven points. Lulu Visocky-O'Grady also grabbed points, finishing sixth for two points (33.15). Evie Sparks nabbed second place in the 800-meter dash with a finish of 2:33.78 for five points. In the 4x200 meter relay, the quartet of Emily Brennan, Bischak, Briyana Hart, and Ryan Singer would place third with a time of 1:50.54.

Field Events

Sophomore Emery Kurth set a new personal-best in the high jump with a first place mark of 1.54m to gain seven points. Julia Schena followed behind with a second place performance of 1.49m and gained five points. Sophomore Norah O'Malley won the long jump event with a jump of 4.39m. Sparks and Elena Nygard had top-three finishes in the pole vault, with Sparks grabbing second with a mark of 2.55m, and Nygard placing third with a mark of 2.40m. In shot put, Sydney Flores placed second with a throw of 12.13m, while Gabrielle Turner was third with a mark of 11.31m. Mariel Drost finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 13.18m, while Turner finished fourth for three points (11.84m).

Up Next for the Big Red

The Big Red will head to Springfield, Ohio at Wittenberg University for the Steemer Showcase next Saturday, January 31.
