High Point, N.C.- The Denison University men's track and field team traveled to High Point University for the 18th annual Vertklasse Meeting inside the Vert Stadium. Denison was one of 40+ institutions to compete in the two-day meet.
Throughout the two-day meet, multiple team members recorded top-20 finishes, personal bests, and found themselves on the Denison men's outdoor track and field top-10 list. In total 15 individuals finished in the top-20, and eight team members found their way onto the programs' top-ten list.
In field events
Tyler Miller finished third in high jump, clearing a height of 1.90m, and later in the weekend jumped a distance of 6.46m in long jump for 20th place. Joining Miller with two top-20 finishes was
Justin Tharayil who finished fifth in high jump (1.85m) and 20th in triple jump with a distance of 12.49m. Earning three top-20 finishes was senior thrower
Chris Slater. Slater finished fourth in the elite fleet in hammer throw after throwing a distance of 55.58m, which is the second furthest distance on Denison's top-ten list. He would go on to finish 15th in shot put (14.47m - eighth on the program's top-ten list), and 17th in discus with a distance of 43.58m (which is seventh on the top-ten list).
Denison continued to find dominance in field events;
Seamus McCann finished fifth in pole vault after clearing a height of 4.40m (eighth on the top-ten list), while teammate
Jason Spino finished 13th after vaulting 3.95m.
Liam Quinlan finished 11th in high jump with a height of 1.80m, while
Andrew D'Asaro took fifth in javelin, after throwing a distance of 62.22m, which puts him second in the program's top ten javelin throws. Rounding out the field events was
Jack Blais, who earned a 10th-place finish after clearing a distance of 6.86m in long jump, for the sixth-best result in the program's top-ten list.
On the track, two members of the Big Red captured top-20 finishes.
Oliver DiCerbo finished the 1500m run in 4:01.91 for 11th place, while teammate
Nico Martinelli took 20th in the 3000m steeplechase after crossing the line in 10:40.29.
