Gambier, Ohio- The Denison men's track and field team tallied 142 points in its first-place finish at the Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College. En route to their first-place finish, the Big Red tallied five first-place finishes and totaled 21 top-five finishes throughout the meet.
Running
Three of the first five place finishes were earned in running events for the Big Red. Kicking off the day with the first top finish was
Caleb Zell- Ratner, who completed the 100m Dash in 10.95 for first. Just behind him were teammates
Pierce Patterson, who finished in 11.15 for third, and
Jake McCann, who came in fourth with a time of 11.15. Peter Morris would tack on the second first-place finish after running the 200m Dash in 22.78. Patterson would cross the finish line just after him with a time of 22.96 to take second place. In the 400m Dash,
Jason Rideout earned fifth after crossing the finish line at 51.55. Denison continued to showcase its depth when the 4x100 team made up of Morris, McCann, Patterson, and Zell-Ratner took first place with a time of 41.86, and later that afternoon, the 4x400 team made up of
Jack Meyerowitz,
Liam Quinlan,
Harrison Monahan, and
Jacob Brechbill, finished second (3:25.48).
Jumps
In jumps, senior
Tyler Miller and
Jack Blais earned first-place finishes in their respective events. Miller cleared a height of 1.90m, and in long jump, Blais secured first place after clearing a distance of 7.03m. Miller along with
David Atlas, would also compete in long jump, finishing third (6.62m) and fifth (5.93m) respectively. Quinlan would tack on another fifth-place finish after clearing a height of 1.80m in high jump. Rounding out the jumps top-five finishers are
Seamus McCann and
Jason Spino. McCann finished second with a height of 4.65m in pole vault, while Spino took home fifth place after clearing a height of 4.20m.
Throws
Denison seemed to find their beat in throws, with three different throwers earning top-five finishes. Senior
Owen Mathes finished fourth in shot put (13.02m) and discus (42.78m), and tallied a personal best with his discus throw. Teammate
Reed Nobili competed in both the discus and hammer throw and threw personal bests in both. In discus, he threw 42.76m, earning him a fifth-place finish, and in hammer, he threw a distance of 40.24m for fifth. Wrapping the day for throws was
Jonathan Westfall, who earned second in javelin, after clearing a distance of 43.71m.
