Granville, Ohio- The Denison men's track and field team takes first out of nine teams at the 2025 Bob Shannon Invitational after recording 138.50 points. The Big Red tallied 17 individual top-five and three top-three finishes in relay events across the invitational.
Distance
In distance events, the Big Red secured three podium finishes.
Nathan Bertman ran the 3000-meter run in 9:09.53 for third place; teammate
Elijah Van Farowe would go on to earn third in the 5000-meter run after running it in 16:38.30. In the distance medley relay,
Leo Wisnefski,
Jason Rideout,
Jacob Brechbill, and
Jonah Waltz were just a second behind the first-place team with a time of 11:15.20.
Mid-Distance and Sprints
Denison continued to find their stride around the track, tallying three first-place finishes.
Malik Holley earned first in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line at 50.88.
Ari Skolnik also finished the day with an individual first-place finish after running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.33.
The final first-place finish earned in mid-distance and springs was earned by
Pierce Patterson,
Malik Holley,
Jack Meyerowitz, and
Liam Quinlan, who ran the 4x200-meter run in 1:32.21.
Big Red's
Jaylin Epps tacked on two more second-place finishes in the 60-meter dash (6.95) and 200-meter dash (22.95). Patterson would earn third in the 400-meter run after finishing with a time of 52.01. The 4x400-meter relay team made up of Patterson, Holley, Meyerowitz, and
Simon Glass earned third after running it in 3:38.20. Both Skolnik, who ran the 60-meter dash in 7.14, and Quinlan, who competed in the 200-meter run (23.71) earned fifth for Denison.
Field Events
In field events,
Seamus McCann cleared a height of 4.39m (14-04.75) in pole vault for first place. Fellow pole vaulter
Jason Spino came in third place, after clearing 3.94m (12-11.00).
Jack Blais recorded a personal best and finished in second in triple jump after jumping a distance of 12.68m (41-07.25) and fourth in long jump (6.37m (20-10.75). Over at high jump,
Justin Tharayil tied for fifth place after jumping a height of 1.73m (5-8.00). In throws,
Justin King took fourth in shot put after throwing a distance of 13.35m (43-09.75); just behind him was
Owen Mathes, who threw a distance of 13.21m (43-04.25) for fifth place. Mathies would later finish third in weight throw, with a distance of 14.10m (46-03.25).
