Granville, Ohio - The Big Red Women's Squash team looks to keep the momentum they had from last season going, as they rank 21st in the country according to the College Squash Association.
2024-25 Season Recap
The Women's team finished the season with a great season, finishing 13-7 and 2-1 in conference play. The Big Red started strong with a three-game winning streak, sweeping North Carolina and defeating William Smith College in straight sets. They capped off the regular season with another three-game winning streak, defeating Bucknell, Chicago, and Chatham to go 9-5 before conference tournament play. In the Liberty League Championship, Denison would cruise its way to the finals but fall to St. Lawrence University in a hard-fought 5-4 loss, taking runner-up. In the National Divisional Championships, the Big Red would get revenge for their conference championship loss and defeat St. Lawrence 7-2 in the first round. They then lost to #1 ranked Wesleyan University in the semifinals, but finished their season on a high note, defeating Chatham 6-3 to take third place at the National Divisional Championships. Charlotte Jones was named Liberty League Player of the Year in just her first year, and the Big Red also received the Coaching Staff of the Year. In total, seven Big Red were named to All-Liberty League teams, four of whom were first-years.
2024-25 Highlights:
- The Big Red had their best season to date, as they reached double-digit wins for the first time in program history and set a new record for most wins in a season with 13.
- Denison had three two-game sweeps on the season, defeating North Carolina's Club team, William Smith College, and Chatham. They only lost a total of eight sets across six matches.
- Charlotte Jones was named Liberty League Player of the Year after going 11-2 in the No. 1 spot. Jones won both of her matches against Liberty League opponents to grab the honor.
- Denison had the most all-conference recipients among all the teams, with seven. Jones, Amelia King, and Antoinette Ramsey all received First Team. Lane Harding, Tess Lanza, Maddie Ruggie, and Charlotte Sigg were Second Team, and Virginia Lawrence was Honorable Mention.
- Kate Manderlink, Lawrence, and Sigg were named to the Liberty League All-Academic team.
- Jones earned two Liberty League Squash Performer of the Week awards in her first year.
Key Players Breakdown:
The Big Red returns four all-conference players from last season, two of whom were First Team and first-years. The depth and experience the team brings for this season will be beneficial in championship play.
Charlotte Jones: The 2024-25 Liberty League Player of the Year, Jones has solidified herself as one of the best. Jones posted an 11-2 record in the No. 1 spot with tough wins over Brown and Tufts. She will look to continue her success and pave the way for the Big Red.
Amelia Keng: Keng, the other Big Red to earn First Team honors in their first year, proved to be one of the top contenders in the conference. Keng went 10-10 in the one through four spot and went 4-2 in conference play. The rising sophomore's early experience will pay dividends for this upcoming season.
Lane Harding: The rising senior received Second Team honors last season after going 8-3 and an undefeated 4-0 in Liberty League matches. Harding was abroad last fall, missing part of the season, but returns for all matches this fall and is ready to compete with a full schedule.
Tess Lanza: Honored with Second Team All-Liberty League, the rising sophomore looks to improve upon her rookie success. Lanza finished her season going 11-6 and 5-1 in conference play.
Maddie Ruggie: The last of the four first-years to be named all-conference, Ruggie finished her rookie season with a 10-4 record and a perfect 5-0 conference record with crucial wins over St. Lawrence and Vassar.
A Look at the Schedule
Denison starts the year at home on November 11th, 2025, as the team faces the University of Virginia. The team will be on the road for a significant portion of the season, concluding with the regular season finale against Chatham University on February 8, 2026. After that, the team will travel to the Liberty League Championship in Canton, New York on February 14th and 15th, and the National Divisional Championship February 27th through March 1st in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
