INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Jan. 17) — The Denison women's swimming and diving team battled against NCAA Division II No. 2 University of Indianapolis, coming up just short in a competitive meet, 174-124. Despite the team result, the Big Red delivered standout individual performances throughout the event.
Junior Quinn Brown made program history by breaking the Denison varsity record in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:59.32, becoming the first female swimmer in Denison history to break the 10-minute mark. Brown continued her impressive meet by winning the 500-yard freestyle with a personal-best time of 4:51.35.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Jasmine Park, Riley Tofflemire, Phoebe Ferguson, and Grace Kadlecik finished third with a time of 1:43.39.
Emily Harris delivered a victory in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first in 51.31, while teammates Annie Pfeufer and Phoebe Ferguson finished third (53.05) and fourth (53.19), respectively.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Pfeufer placed second with a time of 1:53.42, followed by Ferguson in fourth (1:53.55).
In diving, the Big Red swept the podium on the 3-meter board, with Alexis Radhakrishnan taking first place (233.50), Lu-Si Minnich finishing second (222.40), and Kerstyn Johnson securing third (211.10). On the 1-meter board, Johnson claimed second place with a score of 420.15, while Radhakrishnan finished third with 404.55.
Riley Tofflemire claimed second in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:03.64, while Drue Thielking finished fourth in 1:04.06. Thielking returned for a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a 2:18.03.
In the 200-yard butterfly, Emily Harris finished second with a 2:02.09, followed by Emma Pritchett in fourth (2:05.49). Pritchett also delivered a strong swim in the 100-yard butterfly, finishing third with a time of 55.86.
The meet concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the quartet of Kadlecik, Olivia Morse, Maddie Schaefer, and Emily Harris earned second place with a time of 3:26.69.
The Big Red will head home tonight and prepare to roll out of bed early to host NCAA Division I Youngstown State University tomorrow at noon in Granville.
