GRANVILLE, Ohio (Jan. 11) — The fifth-ranked Denison women's swimming and diving team continued their dominant form with convincing victories over No. 16 Carnegie Mellon (256-60) and No. 15 Calvin (248-65) in a tri-meet held at the Trumbull Aquatic Center. The Big Red captured 12 event wins, showcased depth across the lineup, and secured multiple top-three finishes.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Denison claimed first place with a time of 1:42.10, courtesy of Jasmine Park, Riley Tofflemire, Phoebe Ferguson, and Grace Kadlecik. The Big Red's "B" relay followed in third with a 1:44.07.
Junior Quinn Brown impressed in the 1000 freestyle, touching first at 10:08.50, followed closely by senior Taryn Wisner, who placed third with a 10:30.51. Brown also contributed to Denison's dominance in distance events, adding another win in the 500 freestyle (4:57.95) and leading a Big Red sweep of the podium.
In the 200 freestyle, Denison swept the podium. Jena Lawlor clocked 1:54.42 to secure the win, with Annie Pfeufer and Avery Vogen placing second and third in 1:55.36 and 1:55.62, respectively.
Jasmine Park delivered a win in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 56.22, while Riley Tofflemire and Drue Thielking secured a 1-2 finish in the 100 breaststroke with times of 1:03.51 and 1:03.96. Thielking continued her success by winning the 400 IM (4:30.30) and the 200 breaststroke (2:18.34), solidifying herself as one of the meet's standout performers.
Junior Emily Harris led the charge in the 200 butterfly, winning in 2:01.32. Harris also claimed victory in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.17, contributing significantly to Denison's overall success.
Emma Pritchett added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:05.43) and claimed first in the 100 butterfly (55.65).
In the 50 freestyle, Grace Kadlecik (23.67), Amber Croonquist (23.79), and Maddie Schaefer (23.85) swept the top three spots. Denison's dominance extended to the 100 freestyle, where Schaefer and Olivia Morse rounded out the top three behind Harris with times of 52.33 and 52.41, respectively.
Denison continued to rack up points in the 200 backstroke as Courtney McKeown and Caroline Ramirez claimed second and third with times of 2:06.86 and 2:07.42.
In diving, the Denison women swept the top three spots on the 3-meter board. Kerstyn Johnson claimed first with a final score of 279.50, followed by Alexis Radhakrishnan (274.80) and Lu-Si Minnich (253.65). On the 1-meter board, the Big Red posted four top-five finishes out of 11 divers. Johnson led the way in second with a score of 259.35, while Minnich (257.70), Radhakrishnan (253.75), and sophomore Molly McIntyre (234.90) placed third, fourth, and fifth, respectively, showcasing Denison's incredible depth in diving.
The meet concluded with the 200 freestyle relay, where the team of Amber Croonquist, Maja Palmroos, Caroline Ramirez, and Grace Kadlecik secured first place with a time of 1:34.00. Denison's "B" relay added a third-place finish in 1:35.41, capping off an exceptional performance by the Big Red.
Looking ahead, Denison faces a challenging back-to-back meet weekend. The Big Red will travel to Indianapolis on Friday to take on the Greyhounds of UIndy, then return to Granville on Saturday to host Youngstown State University.
