Shah, Patterson, Green selected to compete in NCAA DIII Individual Championships

GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 9, 2024) – The NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Committee has selected the individuals who will compete in the singles and doubles competition at the 2024 NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships, and Denison University sophomores Kael Shah and Jacob Patterson were selected in participate in the singles championship will Shah and fellow-sophomore Ethan Green will take aim at the doubles championship. Denison and the University of Chicago were the only DIII teams this year with three selections to the individual championships.

Shah is currently ranked No. 9 in the ITA national singles rankings. Shah is 27-4 overall in singles, is 16-3 in dual matches (flights 1-3), and is 9-1 when playing at No. 1 singles. Shah is tied for second place in program history for singles wins in one season.

Patterson is ranked No. 15 in the ITA singles rankings. Patterson is 22-4 overall in singles, is 15-2 in dual matches (flights 1-3), and is a combined 10-0 between No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Patterson is tied for seventh in program history for singles wins in one season.

In doubles, Shah and Green are ranked No. 18. They are 18-7 overall and 11-4 in dual matches (all at No. 1 doubles). Green is 26-11 overall in doubles this season, which is tied for the third most doubles win in one season in program history.

It will be the first appearance at the individual championships for all three players.

This is the fourth straight year Denison men's tennis has been represented in the NCAA Division III Singles Championship. Tim Cianciola advanced to the Round of 16 in 2021 and the Elite Eight (quarterfinals) in 2022 while Jack Bulger competed in the opening round of the tournament last season.

The individual championships consist of 32 singles players and 16 doubles teams. The selection of teams and individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.

In addition to qualifying for doubles, Green was listed as the fourth alternate for the men's singles championship. Any singles player or doubles team that scratches from the tournament will be replaced in sequential order by the published list of alternates. The draw for the individual championship will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on May 25 not before 12 p.m. Eastern time.

The team championship will take place May 21-24, while the individual championships will be May 26-28, both at Dwight Davis Tennis Center, St. Louis, Missouri; hosted by Washington University in St. Louis.
