Big Red Take Down Eagles In Thrilling Ranked Matchup

Mayfield, Ohio - Anthony Payiavlas sealed the singles win in the final match to give Denison a top-15 win over No. 12 Emory, 4-3. The Big Red battled through tough competition, with the back three flights earning wins to propel Denison to victory. It is Denison's fourth top-25 ranked win of the season, and increased their win streak to nine matches. The Big Red now stands at 14-2, while the Eagles dropped to 9-6.

Doubles: Denison cruised in doubles action, sweeping through all three flights for the first crucial point of the match. Andreas Chapides and Nick Meyers kicked things off with winning three-straight sets en route to a 6-3 win, and Wesley Huang and Jacob Patterson followed suit shortly after with a 6-4 decision in the No. 2 flight. Ethan Green and Kael Shah battled in the No. 1 spot, going up against some of the nation's best, and came away with a 7-5 win heading into singles play.

Singles: The Eagles were able to tie it up 1-1 after Green fell to Ruilin Feng 6-0, 6-1. Chapides would break the tie just a minute later, securing a smooth 6-4, 6-0 decision for the Big Red. Denison would go up 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-4 win in the No. 4 flight from Meyers, in which he won the last three games to seal the match. The next three matches would all be decided by three-sets, as Patterson fell 6-1, 4-6, 3-6 in the No. 3 flight, and Shah would lose in a battle of nationally-ranked singles players in a thrilling three-sets. With one match to go, it was up to Anthony Payiavlas to clinch the win for the Big Red. Payiavlas would go on to win the first set 6-3, but fall in the second 7-5. The foes would go back and forth between games in the third set before Payiavlas turned it on halfway through, winning three-straight games to win in the final set 6-3 and secure a nationally-ranked win for the Big Red.
