Big Red tied for first place at NCAC’s

GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 3, 2024) – After day one of the North Coast Athletic Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championship in Granville, Ohio, the Denison University Big Red are tied for first place with Wittenberg University, both with 48 points. In third place is Wabash College with 39 points, followed by Ohio Wesleyan University with 32 points to round out the top-four.

After winning the decathlon for the third year in a row last weekend, Jacob Brown added two more all-conference finishes on Friday as he finished third in the pole vault with a personal record of 4.15 meters (13-07.25) and was third with a personal record of 49.97 meters (163-11) in the javelin. He was also eighth with a time of 15.74 seconds in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles.

Brown's all-conference throws in the pole vault and the javelin this year were his first all-conference performances either not in the heptathlon or the decathlon since he was third in the javelin back in 2021 as a freshman at the outdoor championships.

Andrew D'Asaro successfully defended his NCAC championship in the javelin from last year with a throw of 61.93 meters (203-02) this year.

Chris Slater earned all-conference with a third-place finish and personal record of 45.76 meters (150-01) in the discus. Slater was also third in the discus as a freshman back in 2022 before winning the hammer in 2023.

Ari Skolnik had a great day one as well, finishing first with a personal record of 14.51 seconds in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles and taking third with a personal record of 10.98 seconds in the prelims of the 100 meter dash.

Jaylin Epps won the prelims of the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.80 seconds and was fourth with a time of 22.027 seconds (22.03) in the prelims of the 200 meter dash.

Malik Holley tied for second place in the 200 meter dash prelims at 22.025 seconds (22.03) and was fourth with a personal record of 49.05 seconds in the 400 meter dash prelims.

NEXT UP: The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, May 4, for day two of the NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., while the running events are slated to start at 2:15 p.m.
