Holley wins 400 meter dash at OWU; Epps stars at Tennessee

DELAWARE, Ohio (April 6, 2024) – Denison University junior Malik Holley finished first in the 400 meter dash and accounted for the Big Red's lone event win at the Marv Frye Invitational held at Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday. As a team, the Big Red men's track & field team finished fifth in the 11-team field with 69 points, trailing Case Western Reserve University (98 points) in fourth, Albion College (107) in third, Ohio Wesleyan (121) in second and Baldwin Wallace University (152) in first.

Holley's winning time of 49.39 seconds in the 400 meter dash was not only good for a new personal record, but is the seventh-fastest personal record in the event in program history.

Denison earned a pair of second-place finishes in the distance events as Will Cunningham ran a personal record of 1:58.37 in the 800 meter run while Noah Cyr finished with a time of 15:55.00 in the 5,000 meter run.

In the throws, Collin Hill was third in the shot put with a personal record of 15.30 meters, which ranks as the fourth-best personal record in the event in program history. Chris Slater, meanwhile, finished fourth in both the hammer (46.96 meters) and the discus (43.13 meters), and threw the ninth-best personal record in the discus in program history.

Denison's final top-five finish of the meet came with a fifth-place time of 4:26.17 by Oliver DiCerbo in the mile.

TENNESSEE INVITE: The Denison men sent four athletes to compete at the University of Tennessee Invite in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6. On Friday, Jaylin Epps was 12th with a personal record time of 22.08 seconds in the 200 meter dash, which puts him 56th in Division III, while Jack Blais was 12th with a mark of 6.46 meters (21-02.50) in the long jump. Then on Saturday, Epps was eighth with a time of 10.82 seconds in the 100 meter dash.

NEXT UP: The Big Red will head back to Ohio Wesleyan for the 2024 All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, April 12, and Saturday, April 13.
