GAMBIER, Ohio (April 21, 2024) – Denison University men's track and field competed at the 2024 Jesse Owens Classic on Friday and Saturday at Ohio State University while also placing fourth at the Duane Gomez Invitational, hosted by Kenyon College on Saturday.

JESSE OWENS CLASSIC:
On Friday,
Andrew D'Asaro finished in second place in a field of 13 competitors in the javelin with a long throw of 58.74 meters (192-08) while
Oliver DiCerbo was 34th out of of 41 with a time of 4:03.81 in the 1,500 meter run.
On Saturday,
Ari Skolnik finished ninth out of 15 runners in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.65 seconds. Then in the finals, he moved up to seventh place and ran a time of 14.74 meters.
In addition,
Jaylin Epps was 14th out of 25 with a time of 10.85 seconds in the prelims of the 100 meter dash while in the throws,
Collin Hill was 21st out of 27 in the shot put at 14.47 meters (47-05.75).

DUANE GOMEZ INVITATIONAL:
Malik Holley won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.94 seconds and
Will Cunningham won the 800 meter run with a personal record of 1:58.22
Jack Meyerowitz (23.14 seconds) was third behind Holley in the 200 meter dash while
Charles Thompson (23.44 seconds) was fifth and
Liam Quinlan (23.70 seconds) was seventh. The times for Meyerowitz and Thompson were both good for a new personal record in the event.
Noah Cyr (2:03.12) was fifth behind Cunningham in the 800 meter run while
Leo Wisnefski (2:04.05) was sixth and
Worth Hinshaw (2:06.29) was eighth.
Jairus Branch was fourth with a time of 11.43 seconds in the 100 meter dash while Hinshaw was also fourth in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:15.69. Also in the 1,500 meter run was
Drew Carpenter (4:29.07) in eighth place and
Elijah Van Farowe (4:32.66) in 10th place, both with new personal records.
Lastly in the running events,
Thomas Zallocco-Smith finished ninth with a time of 16:27.86 in the 5,000 meter run.
Chris Slater finished third in the shot put with a mark of 14.97 meters (49' 1½") while
Justin King was fourth at 14.03 meters (46' 0½") and
Owen Mathes was fifth at 13.90 meters (45' 7¼").
Mathes also added a pair of sixth-place finishes and personal records in both the discus (39.59 meters) and the hammer (42.21 meters).
Reed Nobili was right behind Mathes in the discus, finishing seventh with a personal record of 39.54 meters (129' 8").
Lastly in the throws,
Jonathan Westfall finished eighth in the javelin with a mark of 36.04 meters (118' 3").

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action next Friday, April 26, when they host the 2024 Big Red Invitational at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium in Granville. The throwing events are scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the remaining field events at 2 p.m. and then the track events at 5 p.m. It will also be Senior Day for the Big Red. The senior recognition ceremony will take place at the stadium at the completion of the meet - approximately 8 p.m.
