DELAWARE, Ohio (April 13, 2024) – After winning the All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championship during each of the last two years, the Denison University men's track & field team was unable to three-peat after collecting 63 points this time around and finishing in sixth place.
Otterbein University won the championship with 138.50 team points while Case Western Reserve University (97.50 points) was second, Oberlin College (96) was third, Ohio Wesleyan University (78) was fourth and Ohio Northern University (70) was fifth. The Big Red also finished just one point in front of Muskingum University (62) in seventh place.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Ari Skolnik finished first in the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.66 seconds.
Jaylin Epps finished first with a time of 10.82 seconds in the prelims of the 100 meter dash while Skolnik was eighth at 11.21 seconds.
SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Epps won the All-Ohio Championship in both the 100 meter dash (10.70 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (21.97 seconds), running a new personal record time in both events.
Skolnik, meanwhile, captured the title in the 110 meter hurdles for the second year in row with a time of 14.55 seconds.
Skolnik also moved up two spots in the finals of the 100 meter dash to finish sixth with a time of 11.14 seconds.
Skolnik and Epps ran the first two legs of Denison's third-place team in the 4x100 meter relay (42.90 seconds) that also featured
Jairus Branch and
Pierce Patterson.
Collin Hill was third in the shot put at 14.69 meters (48-02.50) while
Chris Slater (14.69 meters) was fourth,
Justin King (13.98 meters) was fifth, and
Owen Mathes (13.84 meters) was sixth. King's mark was a new personal record for the freshman.
Tyler Miller was sixth in the long jump at 6.47 meters (21-02.75) and was also top-10 in the high jump at 1.86 meters (6-01.25).

DUKE INVITATIONAL: Denison sent senior
Jacob Brown to compete in the decathlon at the Duke Invitational. In the end, Brown finished fourth with 6,307 points, finishing ahead of athletes from North Carolina, Clemson and Western Carolina. He trailed only Joe Sheryak (Athletic Lab TC) in third with 6,592 points, Starrett Vesper (East Carolina) in second with 6,724 points, and Michael Bennett (Duke) in first with 7,064 points. On Friday, Brown finished eighth in the 100 meter dash (11.68 seconds), fifth in the long jump (6.45 meters), sixth in the shot put (12.11 meters), fifth again in the high jump (1.81 meters), and was 11th in the 400 meter dash (53.83 seconds), putting him in eighth place overall after day one with 3,297 points. Then on Saturday, Brown took third in the 110 meter hurdles (15.82 seconds), was 10th in the discus (30.99 meters), ninth in the pole vault (3.83 meters) and fifth in the javelin (47.67 meters), and was then third again in the 1,500 meter run (4:45.08). In all, Brown finished with five top-five finishes across the 10 events, had three season-best performances (long jump, 110 meter hurdles, javelin), and had a personal record in the shot put.

BISON OUTDOOR CHALLENGE: The Denison men also sent four athletes to compete at the Bison Outdoor Challenge, hosted by Bucknell University.
Andrew D'Asaro won the javelin competition with a new school record of 64.07 meters (210-2) on his very first attempt.
Oliver DiCerbo was 56th out of 67 with a time of 9:56.77 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Lastly, in the 1,500 meter run,
Will Cunningham (4:11.95) was 70th and
Noah Cyr (4:25.90) was 89th out of 91 runners.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action on Wednesday, April 17, when they host the College of Wooster for a traditional dual meet. Field events will start at 3:30 p.m. followed by the track events at 5 p.m. at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
