VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (March 8, 2024) – Day one of the 2024 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field National Championship saw Denison University's Ari Skolnik finish 14th in the prelims of the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.25 seconds. For finishing between ninth and 16th place in his event, Skolnik has been named a Second-Team All-American by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), Denison's first All-American honor in the event.

Skolnik was fourth out of six in his heat (Heat 2) and was 14th out of 18 overall. The top time in the prelims went to Jake Gladieux (Trine) with a time of 7.85 seconds.

Meanwhile, in the heptathlon competition, Jacob Brown sits in 13th place after day one. After four events, Brown has totaled 2,752 points while Jackson Anderson (Williams) leads the way with 3,044 points.

In a field of 20 competitors, Brown started things off with a 17th-place finish in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.36 seconds. Then in the long jump, Brown was 15th with a jump of 6.52 meters (21-4 ¾) on his third and final attempt.

Brown's best performance of the day came with a long throw of 12.52 meters (41-1) on his third attempt in the shot put, placing him third in the event. In the final event of day one, Brown tied for eighth place with a jump of 1.83 meters (6-0) in the high jump.

MYRTLE BEACH COLLEGIATE CHALLENGE: Also on Friday, Denison's Andrew D'Asaro competed in the javelin competition at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge in South Carolina, marking the beginning of the Big Red's outdoor track & field season as well. D'Asaro ultimately put together a very strong showing and finished second in the 29-man field with a long throw of 59.77 meters (196-01.00) on his fifth attempt. In the end, D'Asaro only trailed Damitrius Hester (Rowan), who threw 60.97 meters (200-00.00) also on his fifth attempt.
