Box Score WOOSTER, Ohio (March 29, 2024) – The No. 12 Denison University men's tennis team played its first North Coast Athletic Conference match of the 2024 season on Friday and came away with a 9-0 road sweep at the College of Wooster.
Notable Results:
Doubles
- In their first time playing together this season, Zachary Portnoy and Milan Gonela rolled 8-0 over Bennett Dickerson and Walker Wood at No. 3 doubles.
- Kael Shah and Ethan Green, who are ranked No. 8 nationally, defeated Anthony VanOyen and Amav Yadav 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. It was their first win in a dual match so far this season.
- The final doubles match saw Jacob Patterson and Archie Turner, who were also playing together for the first time this season, pull out an 8-6 victory over Jay Dixit and Namit Misra in the No. 2 spot.
Singles
- Andy Mackler and Colin Gramley both won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Mackler is 4-2 at No. 4 singles so far this season while Gramley is 2-0 in the five spot.
- Nickawn Namdar defeated Dickerson 6-1, 6-3 at No. 6 singles before Shah, who is ranked No. 19 nationally, won 6-4, 6-2 over VanOyen at No. 2 singles. Namdar is 3-0 at No. 6 singles while Shah is a combined 7-2 between No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
- Green (No. 1 singles), who is ranked No. 19 nationally, and Ryan Patrick (No. 3 singles) both won a tiebreaker in their first set before winning 6-4 in set number two. Green is now 6-2 between the top-three singles spots while Patrick is 2-0 when playing at No. 3 singles.
Records:
- No. 12 Denison improved to 6-3 overall and 1-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. In addition, the Big Red are now 28-0 against Wooster (6-6, 0-1) since the 2005 season.
Next Up: Denison will finish off the month of March by heading back into nonconference action at No. 18 nationally-ranked Carnegie Mellon University starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday, March 31.
