Men’s track & field claims runner-up finish at Bob Shannon Invitational

GRANVILLE, Ohio (February 3, 2024) – Highlighted by four event wins and a school record in the shot put, the Denison University men's track & field team tallied 110.50 points on Saturday and placed second overall at the 2024 Bob Shannon Invitational. The Big Red finished ahead of Washington & Jefferson with 93 points, but trailed Albion with 142 points in the final team standings.

Denison earned two individual wins and two wins in the relay events. Jacob Brown won the pole vault with a leap of 4.10 meters (13-05.25) while Malik Holley won the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.86 seconds.

In the distance medley relay, Oliver DiCerbo, Jason Rideout, Leo Wisnefski and Worth Hinshaw put together a winning time of 10:47.10 while Brown, Holley, Pierce Patterson and Jack Meyerowitz won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:32.87.

In addition, Denison's 4x200 meter relay team of Holley, Patterson, Liam Quinlan and Jairus Branch finished second with a time of 1:33.05.

After winning the 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 7.00 seconds, Jaylin Epps finished third in the finals at 6.99 seconds. Holley, meanwhile, moved up from a sixth-place finish in the prelims (7.14) to finishing fifth in the finals with a new personal record of 7.11 seconds.

Brown went from finishing third in the 60 meter hurdle prelims with a time of 8.77 seconds to ending in fourth place with a time of 8.83 seconds in the finals.

Also on the track, Wisnefski (2:03.50) was fourth in the 800 meter run, Patterson (53.17) was fifth in the 400 meter dash and Drew Carpenter (9:39.37) was also fifth in the 3,000 meter run.

Chris Slater finished second with a new school record of 15.28 meters (50'1.75") in the shot put and was third in the weight throw (14.87 meters). Slater's mark in the shot put broke the previous school record set by Arthur Morrow (49'9.50") in 1964.

Behind Slater in the shot put was Justin King in fifth place at 13.94 meters.

Lastly in the field events, Jason Spino (3.65 meters) tied for third place in the pole vault.

NEXT UP: Denison will return to action next Saturday, February 10, when the Big Red travel to Westerville, Ohio, to compete in the All-Ohio Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Otterbein University.
