WOOSTER, Ohio (January 20, 2024) – The Denison University men's track & field team traveled to the College of Wooster on Saturday and placed second overall at the 2024 Fighting Scots invitational. Totaling 141.50 team points on the day, the Big Red finished ahead of third-place Oberlin College with 122 points while Wooster won the meet with 160 points.
Denison had some strong showings in the field events as
Jason Spino (3.65 meters) and
Kai Kobrak (3.50 meters) finished back-to-back in second and third place in the pole vault while
Jacob Brown (1.90 meters) added a second-place finish in the high jump and
Liam Quinlan (1.75 meters) tied for fifth.
In the throws,
Collin Hill (13.92 meters) was second in the shot put and was followed by
Justin King (13.71) making his Big Red track & field debut in third place.
Reed Nobili added fifth-place marks in both the shot put (12.55 meters) and the weight throw (10.77 meters).
Ari Skolnik won the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.21 seconds, his second straight win in the event at the Fighting Scots Invitational and his second straight win in the event this season. In addition, Brown (8.83 seconds) was third in the 60 meter hurdles behind Skolnik, who also added a second-place finish in the 60 meter dash at 7.07 seconds while
Malik Holley was fourth at 7.18 seconds.
Denison's team of Holley, Brown,
Pierce Patterson and
Jack Meyerowitz won the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:38.36 while Holley, Patterson,
Jairus Branch and Meyerowitz finished second in the 4x200 meter relay at 1:31.90.
Individually,
Worth Hinshaw (4:28.85) was second in the mile while
Elijah Van Farowe (17:02.79) and
Drew Carpenter (17:08.91) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place in the 5,000 meter run.
Adding fourth-place finishes was Quinlan (23.93 seconds) in the 200 meter dash,
Leo Wisnefski (2:02.67) in the 800 meter run and
Noah Cyr (9:16.67) in the 3,000 meter run.
