DELAWARE, Ohio (May 6, 2023) – Highlighted by 12 total All-North Coast Athletic Conference performances and five conference championships throughout the meet, in addition to a new school record on Saturday, the Denison University men's track & field team finished first overall at the NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, bringing home the seventh conference title for outdoor track & field in program history but the first since 1991.
The Big Red ended the weekend with 162 total points, landing 33 points in front of second-place Wabash College, which finished with 129 points, while Oberlin College was third with 118 points and Wittenberg University was fourth with 114.
In addition, after doing so at the NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship back in February, Head Coach
Mark FitzPatrick and the rest of the Big Red coaching staff (
Sarah Oprondek,
Ethan Perry,
Nicholas Gray,
Gene Booher, and posthumously Phil Torrens), were awarded the NCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Coaching Staff of the Year award as well.
In the first event of the day, Denison finished 3-5 in the shot put to increase its lead to 68.50-56 over Wabash.
Collin Hill finished third with a personal record of 15.10 meters while
Owen Mathes was fourth at 14.27 meters and
Chris Slater was fifth at 14.26 meters.

The Denison lead then increased to 24 points (80-56) after an 11.5-point boost in the high jump.
Tyler Miller won the conference championship with a personal record leap of 1.96 meters while
Liam Quinlan captured 1.5 points with a tie for seventh place at 1.85 meters.
Following
Ari Skolnik's win in the 110 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 14.78 seconds, Denison's lead increased to 26 points (120-94) over Oberlin (14 events scored).
In the 100 meter dash finals,
Jaylin Epps finished in second place with a personal record time of 10.769 seconds, just losing out in a photo finish to Kenyon College's Tapiwa Gono Phiri at 10.767 seconds. Then in the 200 meter dash finals, Epps was third at 22.170 seconds, just behind Wittenberg's Ezekiel Bennett in second place at 22.165 seconds.
Behind Epps,
Daniel DeSantis finished fourth in the 100 meter dash at 11.02 seconds and Holley finished fourth in the 200 at 22.24 seconds as Denison led by as many as 38 points (157-119) over Wabash (19 events scored).
Skolnik, Epps, DeSantis and Holley teamed up to finish in second place with a time of 42.14 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay.
Denison's remaining conference championship from Saturday came courtesy of
Andrew D'Asaro with a new school record throw of 61.59 meters in the javelin. In addition, the remaining all-conference performance for the Big Red came from
Isaiah Kessler, who finished in second in the finals of the 400 meter hurdles with a personal record of 56.75 seconds after taking third place in the pole vault on Friday.
Denison's final two fifth-place finishes of the meet came from
Angelo Ricci with a maximum distance of 13.31 meters in the triple jump and
Oliver DiCerbo with a time of 4:00.56 in the 1,500 meter run.
