NAPERVILLE, Ill. (May 16, 2023) – Denison University's Jacob Brown competed at the North Central College Combined Events Qualifier on Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16, and not only broke his own school record with 6,356 points, but put himself into position to potentially qualify for nationals next week.

Brown finished second overall at North Central, trailing only Washington University's Loucas Xenakis with 6,541 points.

Brown was top-five in every event at North Central and set three personal records in individual events in addition to breaking the school record in the decathlon.

He was fourth in the 100 meter dash with a personal record time of 11.62 seconds, was second in the long jump at 6.55 meters (21' 6"), was third in the shot put at 11.89 meters (39' 0.25"), was third in the high jump with a personal record of 1.86 meters (6' 1.25"), and was fifth in the 400 meter dash (53.28 seconds) on Monday, putting him in second place with 3,386 points.

Then on Tuesday, he won the 110 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 15.60 seconds, followed by a third-place finish in the discus of 31.06 meters (101' 11"), a third-place finish in the pole vault at 3.70 meters (12' 1.5"), a second-place finish in the javelin at 45.89 meters (150' 7"0), and a second-place time of 4:45.78 in the 1,500 meter run.

Brown broke his own school record of 6,211 points set at North Central a year ago.

Brown now ranks 20th in all of NCAA Division III for the decathlon, and will learn if he is one of 22 individuals selected to compete in the event at nationals on Friday, May 19, on NCAA.com
