HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (May 11, 2023) – The NCAA Division III Women's Golf Committee has determined that round three will officially be canceled on the grounds of an unplayable hole for the entire tournament field. As play continued throughout round three it became apparent that the pin placement on Hole 6 was too severe for play.
With this decision being made, the championship will now conclude as a 54-hole tournament with the final round being seeded off of the completion of round two. The top-15 teams after round two have advanced to the final round, and that leaves out Denison University (336-329; 665), which was in 17th place after round two.
As a team, Denison finishes three strokes behind New York University (331-331; 662) in 16th place and was just six strokes away from the University of Texas at Dallas (331-328; 659) for a spot among the top-15 teams.
However, after the committee elected to advance six additional individuals to the final round, the top-12 individuals not on one of the 15 teams to advance will now play in the final round on Friday as well, and that includes Denison freshman
Isabella Dolan and senior
Laine Hursh.
Dolan (83-79; 162) is currently tied for 34th while Hursh (84-79; 163) is tied for 41st. The pair are two of 87 total advancing players.
The non-advancing players for Denison included
Kate Griffin (83-84; 167) in a tie for 64th,
Julia Shafir (86-87; 173) in a tie for 89th, and
Ella McRoberts (95-91; 186) in a tie for 130th.
Due to the late afternoon thunderstorms, the course conditions have forced the tee times for Friday morning to be moved to 8 a.m. Hursh will tee off at 9:50 a.m. tomorrow followed by Dolan at 10 a.m., both on Hole 10.
