Newport News, Va. - In their final event of the fall season, the twentieth-ranked Denison women's golf team earned a fourth place finish in the Historic Triangle Invitational at the River Course at Kingsmill. The Big Red competed against numerous highly-ranked teams, among them #4 Washington University of St. Louis, #8 Washington & Lee University, and #12 Carleton College. Denison's fourth-place placement catapulted them above all three.
Putting together a team score of +33 to par, the Big Red performance was quite the team effort, as all five Denison competitors wound up in the top 50.
Junior Natalia Fanucchi led the charge for the Big Red, following up her stellar first round 75 with a 77. Her +8, 152 was good for a 16th place finish.
Last season's North Coast Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year Siena Maschke was not too far behind Fanucchi, as she capped her tournament in 22nd place with a +9, 152 (78-75).
Anna Klass and Lizzy Grant both tied for 31st with totals of +11, 155. Klass improved on day two with a round of 75, while Grant's day one 72 was the team low for the event.
Isabella Dolan closed her senior fall with a +16, 160, in which she shaved six strokes off from her day one scorecard with a round two 77. She placed 46th.
Two golfers competed as individuals for the Big Red, first years Anais Oge and Lily Wang. Oge's back-to-back 83s landed her in 60th with a +22, 166. Wang finished in 70th with a +29, 173 (87-86).
And with that, after a fall season which saw numerous top finishes both individually and as a team, the Big Red women golfers will turn their attention to the offseason. When the fresh blossoms bloom in just a few short months, Denison will look to a promising group of golfers for a chance to cement themselves as a top program in the country.
