Women’s Golf to Compete in NCAA Championship in Palm Desert, California

Palm Desert, California - The Big Red women's golf team will head out to Palm Desert, California for the NCAA Division III women's golf championship held at Desert Willow Golf Resort. Denison was one of 34 teams to qualify for the tournament, and will begin play on Tuesday, May 19.

The Big Red captured its sixth-consecutive NCAC Championship to earn the automatic bid to the tournament. Denison finished with a team score of 942 (+78) over the course of three-days at Squaw Creek Golf Course. First team All-NCAC and all-tournament team honoree Siena Maschke paced the Big Red, finishing tied third with a score of 77-74-81 (+16). Natalia Fanucchi followed suit with a fifth place all-tournament team finish and earning first team All-NCAC honors, finishing with a score of 78-75-80 (+17). Isabella Dolan finished eighth at the NCAC Championships with a total score of 81-78-79 (+22) and earned second team All-NCAC honors.

This will be the first year where the tournament will be held in California, with last years in Williamsburg, Virginia. The teams will play through 72 holes in total, and after 36 holes the field will be cut to the top-15 teams and the top six individuals not on one of those teams to compete in the final two rounds. 

Denison, who is seeded No. 15, will play with Carelton and Illinois Wesleyan for the first two rounds. After the first two rounds of play, the field will be cut down to 15 teams and the six individuals with the best scores not on the qualifying teams. The final two rounds will be at the Firecliff course.

Day One will be played on Tuesday at Mountain View, a Par 72, 5,873 yard course. Anais Oge will tee off at 9:25am, with Lizzy Grant, Isabella Dolan, Natalia Fanucchi, Siena Maschke following up in 10 minute increments. Day Two will begin at Firecliff, a par 72, 5,820 yard course, with No. 5 and 1 reshuffling based on scores.

Last season, the Big Red fought valiantly against the top competition, with Siena Maschke advancing as an individual to the championship and representing Denison on the national stage, finishing +16.

Practice rounds will ensue today and Monday, with the Big Red teeing off at 9:25 P.T.
