OBERLIN, Ohio (April 30, 2023) – For the second year in a row, Denison University's Jacob Brown is the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Combined Events Champion after placing first overall in the decathlon at the 2023 NCAC Combined Events Championship held at Oberlin College on Sunday afternoon. Brown finished with 6,163 points, just 39 points ahead of Wabash College's Jake Oostman (6,124 points) in second place and 185 points in front of DePauw University's Daniel Jansen (5,938) in third place.

Brown finished the championship with two event wins (long jump; 1,500 meter run) and six other top-three finishes throughout the 10 events.

In the final five events on Sunday, he was second in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.00 seconds, was third in the discus at 31.68 meters (103-11), third in the pole vault at 3.65 meters (11-11.75) and third in the javelin at 41.30 meters (135-06), all before winning the final event, the 1,500 meter run, with a time of 4:49.52 to walk off with his third straight NCAC Combined Events Championship between both the indoor and outdoor track & field seasons.

Denison freshman Justin Tharayil, meanwhile, finished ninth out of 11 competitors after compiling 4,614 points and taking 10th in the 110 meter hurdles (19.38 seconds), seventh in the discus (26.05 meters), eighth in the pole vault (2.85 meters), ninth in the javelin (34.08 meters) and sixth in the 1,500 meter run (5:21.29) on Sunday. After setting a new personal record in each of the first three events on Saturday, Tharayil did so in all five events on Sunday.

NEXT UP: The Big Red will be back in action next weekend (May 5-6) when they travel to Delaware, Ohio, for the 2023 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University.
