Justin Tharayil both competed for the Big Red on Saturday as they took part in day one of the 2023 NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Combined Events Championships held at Oberlin College.
Through the first five events of the decathlon, Brown earned one event win and three total top-three finishes, and is currently in second place with a total of 3,327 points.
Tharayil, meanwhile, set three new personal records and sits in eighth place out of 11 competitors with 2,706 points.
Brown was fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.67 seconds while Tharayil was 10th with a personal record time of 12.54 seconds.
Brown then won the long jump with a leap of 6.61 meters (21-08.25) while Tharayil was fourth with another personal record at 6.05 meters (19-10.25).
Brown and Tharayil finished in second and third place in the shot put with throws of 11.89 meters (39-00.25) and 9.89 meters (32-05.50), respectively. Tharayil's mark was good for his third personal record in the first three events of the decathlon.
The pair then tied for fourth place in the high jump at 1.80 meters (5-10.75).
Lastly, in the 400 meter dash, Brown finished in third place with a time of 53.51 seconds while Tharayil was ninth at 58.83 seconds.
Wabash College's Jake Oostman leads after day one with a total of 3,519 points after winning the 100 meter dash and the shot put and finishing second in the long jump, the high jump and the 400 meter dash.
NEXT UP: Brown and Tharayil will return for day two of the NCAC decathlon on Sunday, April 30, to compete in the 110 meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and the 1,500 meter run.
