DELAWARE, Ohio (April 15, 2023) – After winning the All-Ohio Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the first time in program history last year, the Denison University men's track & field team successfully defended its title this year after collecting 153.50 points on Saturday at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Last year, Denison just beat out Case Western Reserve University by half a point to claim the title. This year, the Big Red finished 21.5 points ahead of the Spartans with 132 points.
Denison earned the win in two throwing events as
Gabe Springer won the discus for the second year in a row with a long toss of 47.14 meters while
Collin Hill won the shot put with a new personal record of 15.07 meters.
Denison's two other wins in the field events came from
Andrew D'Asaro with a throw of 56.33 meters in the javelin, just three days after breaking the school record in the event, and
Tyler Miller with a leap of 1.93 meters to tie for first place in the high jump.
Also in the field events,
Tyler Miller (1.93 meters) finished in second place in the high jump for the second year in a row.
Ari Skolnik won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.11 seconds in the finals while also running the first leg of Denison's championship 4x100 meter relay team which also featured
Jaylin Epps,
Daniel DeSantis and
Malik Holley and finished with a time of 42.07 seconds.
Denison also finished in third place in the 4x400 meter relay as Holley,
Jack Blais,
Nathan Hydukovich and DeSantis combined for a time of 3:23.08.
Adding All-Ohio finishes for the Big Red on the track were
Noah Cyr, who finished second in the 10,000 meter run at 33:43.00,
Oliver DiCerbo, who was second in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at 10:00.82, and Holley who took third in the 200 meter dash with a personal record time of 22.00 seconds.
Epps and Holley also both set new personal bests in the 100 meter dash with times of 10.92 seconds (third place) and 10.99 seconds (sixth place) in the prelims while DeSantis set a new personal best in the finals for both the 100 meter dash (11.03 seconds; 7th place) and the 200 meter dash (22.40 seconds; 6th place).
Lastly,
Declan Toomey ran a new personal best of 4:04.37 to finish fifth in the 1,500 meter run while
Tomas Brockett-Delgado was sixth in the 800 meter run with a personal best of 1:59.28 and
Isaiah Kessler was sixth with a new personal best of 4.35 meters in the pole vault.
Tiffin Track Carnival: Denison also sent Skolnik to compete in the 110 meter hurdles at the Tiffin University Track Carnival, held on Friday, April 14. Skolnik won his heat and finished eighth overall in prelims after tying his personal record of 15.10 seconds. That time still ranks first in the North Coast Athletic Conference so far this season. Skolnik then ended up seventh in the 110 meter hurdle finals with a time of 15.15 seconds.
