GRANVILLE, Ohio (April 12, 2023) – The Denison University men's track & field team totaled nine wins in 16 events, but in the end, the Big Red tied the College of Wooster, 82-82, in a traditional dual meet held in Granville, Ohio, on Wednesday evening.
In the first event to finish,
Andrew D'Asaro won the javelin for the second year in a row, throwing a mark of 58.88 meters to break the previous Denison school record of 57.85 meters set by Steve Gallego in 2009.
Gabe Springer also won the discus for the second year in a row, finishing with a long toss of 48.72 meters while
Collin Hill was third with a personal best of 40.80 meters.
Hill won the shot put for the second year in a row, throwing a new personal record of 14.67 meters while
Chris Slater was second at 13.70 meters,
Owen Mathes was third at 13.64 meters and Springer was fourth at 13.27 meters.
Denison also finished in second through fourth place in the hammer as Slater (45.03 meters) was second, Springer (44.26 meters) was third and Mathes (personal best 40.55 meters) was fourth.
Also in the field events,
Angelo Ricci won the long jump with a leap of 6.53 meters while
Jason Spino was third with a personal best of 5.93 meters.
On the track, Denison took the top-three spots in the 400 meter dash as
Jack Blais was first with a personal record of 52.08 seconds while
Tomas Brockett-Delgado (53.45 seconds) was second and
Jacob Brown (54.14 seconds) was third.
Daniel DeSantis (personal record 11.05 seconds) and
Malik Holley (11.25 seconds) finished back-to-back in first and second place in the 100 meter dash.
In the 800 meter run,
Declan Toomey was second with a personal record of 1:59.02 while
Joshua Lamb (2:06.08) was fourth and
Thomas Zallocco-Smith (personal best 2:13.27) made it three Big Red runners in the top-five.
Oliver DiCerbo won the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:09.31 while
Nico Martinelli was second with a personal best of 4:20.71 and
William Allain was fourth also with a personal best of 4:22.79.
Jaylin Epps was first in the 200 meter dash with a new personal record time of 22.44 seconds and also helped Denison's "A" team consisting of
Ari Skolnik, Epps, DeSantis and Holley win the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 42.49 seconds.
Behind Epps in the 200 was
Nathan Hydukovich in fourth place with a personal best time of 23.06 seconds.
