ATLANTA, Ga. (March 25, 2023) – The Denison University men's track & field team had a great day two to wrap up the first meet of its 2023 outdoor season in second place out of 27 teams at the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open on Saturday.
Denison finished with 81 points, just a half a point in front of Columbus St. (80.5 points) in third place while Emory earned the victory with 135 team points.

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Â
Denison put on a great showing in both the discus and the shot put as
Gabe Springer finished in second place in the discus with a mark of 44.36 meters while
Chris Slater was fifth at 42.18 meters and
Owen Mathes was 19th at 36.09 meters. Meanwhile, in the shot put, Denison finished in order between second, third and fourth place as Slater was second with a new personal record toss of 13.98 meters while
Collin Hill was third at 13.90 meters and
Owen Mathes was fourth with a personal record of 13.75 meters.
In the pole vault,
Jacob Brown and
Jason Spino both tied for ninth place at 3.70 meters while in the triple jump,
Dagne Auditore (12.85 meters) was 12th and
Angelo Ricci (12.83 meters) was 14th.
On the track,
Ari Skolnik finished second in the 110 meter hurdle prelims with a time of 15.21 seconds before finishing third in the finals with a new personal record of 15.10 seconds while
Tomas Brockett-Delgado was fifth with a time of 9:29.46 in the 3,000 meter run.
The Big Red also put together two strong performances in the relays as the team of
Declan Toomey,
Joshua Lamb,
Oliver DiCerbo and Brockett-Delgado finished in fourth place with a time of 8:12.61 in the 4x800 meter relay while Skolnik,
Jaylin Epps,
Nathan Hydukovich and
Malik Holley were fifth with a time of 42.53 seconds in the 4x100.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Holley, Hydukovich,
Liam Quinlan and Epps were 14th at 3:30.80.
Lastly,
Daniel DeSantis (11.54 seconds) was 17th in the qualifying for the 100 meter dash while Toomey (4:15.93) was 23rd in the 1,500 meter run (Open) and
Jack Blais (53.04 seconds) was 39th in the 400 meter dash.
