ATLANTA, Ga. (March 24, 2023) – The Denison University men's track & field team began its 2023 outdoor campaign on Friday as the Big Red competed during the opening day of the Emory Thrills in the Hills Open. With nine of 22 events scored, the Big Red (31 points) are currently in fourth place out of 22 teams in the scoring column.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Denison's best finish on the track came from
Thomas Zallocco-Smith with a second-place time of 34:46.24 in the 10,000 meter run.
Also on the track,
Nico Martinelli finished in fourth place with a time of 10:09.97 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase while
Isaiah Kessler was 18th with a time of 1:00.04 in the 400 meter hurdles.
In the 1,500 meter run (Invite),
Declan Toomey (4:15.93) was 22nd while
Joshua Lamb (4:19.16) finished in 26th place.
In the 200 meter dash,
Malik Holley (22.87 seconds) was 31st while
Jaylin Epps (22.96 seconds) was 36th.
In the field events,
Andrew D'Asaro (51.72 meters) and
Jacob Brown (45.04 meters) finished in second and fifth place, respectively, in the javelin, while
Tyler Miller finished in third place in the high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters.
In the hammer throw,
Chris Slater (43.98 meters) was 11th,
Gabe Springer (42.65 meters) was 13th and
Owen Mathes (39.79 meters) finished in 18th place. The marks for Springer and Mathes were both personal records.
Lastly, in the long jump,
Jack Blais (6.46 meters) was 11th,
Angelo Ricci (6.18 meters) was 19th and
Hilton Sanchez (5.89 meters) was 29th.
