SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (February 18, 2023) – The Denison University men's track & field team finished with 14 top-10 finishes on Saturday afternoon at the 2023 Wittenberg Invitational.
Denison was led on the track by
Calvin Bailey's (1:58.13) third-place finish in the 800 meter run while
Jaylin Epps (22.75 seconds) was ninth in the 200 meter dash and
Declan Toomey (4:23.59) and
Oliver DiCerbo (4:25.44) were 10th and 12th, respectively, in the mile.
In addition,
Malik Holley, Bailey,
Liam Quinlan and Toomey finished in third place with a time of 3:33.30 in the 4x400 meter relay.
In the field events,
Chris Slater (16.97 meters) and
Gabe Springer (14.46 meters) finished in third place and seventh place, respectively, in the weight throw; and in the shot put, Slater (14.30 meters) was fifth while
Owen Mathes (14.26 meters) was right behind him in sixth.
In the pole vault,
Isaiah Kessler (4.09 meters) was sixth,
Jason Spino (3.79 meters) was seventh and
Grant Plasch (3.64 meters) was 10th.
Jack Blais (6.61 meters) and
Hilton Sanchez (6.30 meters) finished in sixth and ninth place, respectively, in the long jump.
Dagne Auditore was seventh in the high jump with a leap of 1.86 meters while Quinlan (1.81 meters) was 11th and
Justin Tharayil (1.76 meters) was 15th.

NCAC Indoor Track & Field Combined Events Championships: Denison junior
Jacob Brown also competed for the Big Red on Saturday as he took part in day one of the 2023 NCAC Indoor Track & Field Combined Events Championships held inside the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville. Through the first four events of the heptathlon, Brown currently sits in second place out of 10 competitors with a total of 2,661 points. Wabash College's Jake Oostman is currently first with 2,762 points.
Brown started the day with a second-place finish and a time of 7.38 seconds in the 60 meter dash, finishing behind only Oostman (7.29 seconds). Brown then followed that up with a win and a leap of 6.63 meters (21-09.00) in the long jump, finishing ahead of Oostman and Daniel Jansen (DePauw University) in a tie for second place at 6.23 meters (20-05.25).
In the shot put, Brown was second at 11.97 meters (39-03.25) while Oostman was first was 12.09 meters (39-08.00). Then in the final event of day one, Brown finished sixth in the high jump at 1.74 meters (5-08.50) while Oostman was first at 1.92 meters (6-03.50).
The final day of the NCAC Combined Events Championships will commence with the women's pentathlon beginning at 11:30 a.m. while the men's heptathlon will start up again at 12:15 p.m. Brown will compete in the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000 meter run.
