Two school records fall as DU men open season at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (December 3, 2023) – Highlighted by a win and a school record by Malik Holley in the 300 meter dash at 35.39 seconds, the Denison University men's track & field team opened its 2023-24 indoor season on Saturday at the Tiger Opener hosted by Wittenberg University. Holley broke the previous school record in the 300 of 36.22 seconds set by Hogan Winn in 1999.

Also on the track, Ari Skolnik finished second in the 60 meter hurdle prelims with a new Denison school record of 8.26 seconds, breaking his own school record of 8.31 seconds set at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships last season. Skolnik then proceeded to remain in second place in the finals with a time of 8.29 seconds.

In the field events, Isaiah Kessler finished tied for second in the pole vault with a jump of 4.25 meters while Liam Quinlan tied for fifth in the high jump at 1.83 meters and Jack Blais was sixth in the long jump at 6.33 meters.

Lastly, in the throws, Collin Hill was fourth in the shot put at 14.23 meters while Chris Slater was fifth in both the weight throw (16.18 meters) and the shot put (13.99 meters).

  • Liam Quinlan – tied for fifth place in the high jump – 1.83 meters (6' 0")
  • Jack Blais – sixth place in the long jump – 6.33 meters (20' 9¼")
  • Pierce Patterson – ninth place in the 400 meter dash – 51.05 seconds
 
NEXT UP: Denison will return to action on Saturday, January 13, when it travels to New Concord, Ohio, to compete in the Muskie Meet.
