WOOSTER, Ohio (January 26, 2023) – Only five days after competing at the Fighting Scots Invitational, the Denison University men's track & field team returned to the College of Wooster for a traditional dual meet for indoor track & field. Unfortunately, the Big Red came up short in the end, 77-61, to the Fighting Scots.
For the third meet in a row,
Chris Slater earned the win in both the weight throw (16.76 meters) and the shot put (13.98 meters). Behind Slater in the weight throw was
Gabe Springer (14.33 meters) in second and
Owen Mathes (12.45 meters) in third, while behind Slater in the shot put was
Collin Hill (13.47 meters) in second, Mathes (13.03 meters) in third and Springer (12.46 meters) in fourth.
Jacob Brown earned the win in the triple jump (12.80 meters) while
Jason Spino was third in the long jump (5.62 meters).
In the pole vault,
Grant Plasch, Spino and Brown all tied for fourth place at 3.50 meters.
Denison got the track events started off with a win in the 4x200 meter relay (1:33.44) by
Jaylin Epps,
Nathan Hydukovich,
Daniel DeSantis and
Liam Quinlan.
Ari Skolnik picked up a win in the 60 meter dash (7.23 seconds), as did
Noah Cyr in the 800 meter run (2:00.88). Finishing in order between third and sixth place in the 800 behind Cyr was
Oliver DiCerbo (2:06.50),
Declan Toomey (2:07.69),
Joshua Lamb (2:09.28) and
Ian Harrington (2:09.43).
Will Cunningham was second in the one mile run (4:41.18) and Hydukovich was second in the 400 meter dash (50.97 seconds).
In the 200 meter dash, Epps (23.79 seconds),
Malik Holley (23.89 seconds), Skolnik (23.95 seconds), Plasch (24.30 seconds), Quinlan (24.59 seconds) and DeSantis (24.70 seconds) finished in order between second and seventh place.
The night was then finished off by Denison's 4x400 meter relay "A" team consisting of Holley,
Calvin Bailey, DiCerbo and Cyr finished in second place with a time of 3:43.59.
