NEW CONCORD, Ohio (January 14, 2023) – Headlined by four wins and 13 different top-five finishes in the finals, Denison University men's track & field rang in the New Year by finishing in third place out of nine teams on Saturday at the Muskie Pride Meet. It was the first-ever indoor track & field meet hosted by Muskingum at the new Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.
Denison finished with 107 points as a team while Washington & Jefferson was second with 124 points and West Liberty won the meet with 145 points. Wittenberg University, Denison's North Coast Athletic Conference foe, was fourth with 87.5 points.
The star of the day for the Big Red was
Chris Slater, who earned a pair of wins in the shot put (14.92 meters) and in the weight throw (15.67 meters).
Also in the field events,
Angelo Ricci took home second place with a leap of 12.56 meters in the triple jump.
Grant Plasch (3.80 meters) made his presence felt with a third-place mark in the pole vault while finishing in fifth place in the high jump with a leap of 1.85 meters was
Liam Quinlan.
On the track,
Ari Skolnik picked up the win and set a new school record in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.51 seconds in the finals. He also won the 60 meter dash prelims with a time of 7.12 seconds before finishing in second place in the finals at 7.16 seconds.
Nathan Hydukovich earned the win in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.27 seconds.
Oliver DiCerbo finished in third place in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:10.03 while
Noah Cyr (9:12.31) was right behind him in fourth place and
Thomas Zallocco-Smith (9:43.90) was seventh.
Joshua Lamb finished in fifth place in both the 800 meter run (2:10.62) and the mile (4:45.70).
Declan Toomey finished right behind Lamb in the 800 with a sixth-place time of 2:11.17.
Lastly,
Jacob Brown finished in sixth place in the 1,000 meter run with a time of 2:55.31, and Denison's 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Hydukovich, Lamb,
Ian Harrington and Toomey was sixth at 3:46.18.
