GRANVILLE, Ohio (June 15, 2022) – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its 2022 Academic All-America® Women's At-Large Teams, and Denison University's
Casey McTague of the Big Red women's lacrosse team was named a Third-Team Academic All-American® for the second year in a row.
McTague started and played in 18 of the Big Red's 19 games this season. She finished her senior year leading Denison with 68 goals, 72 points, 77 draw controls, 41 groundballs and 27 caused turnovers. She helped the Big Red to a 12-7 overall record, a runner-up finish in the North Coast Athletic Conference both during the regular season and during the conference tournament, and an appearance in the NCAA Sweet 16 after a 13-12 overtime victory over No. 14 Catholic University in the second round.
In the Big Red record books, McTague's 68 goals scored this season ranks fourth in program history while her 161 career goals ranks fifth. In draw controls, McTague ranks third for her career (198) while her single-season total this year of 77 draw controls ranks sixth.
In addition to earning Third-Team Academic All-America® honors for the second year in a row, 2022 also saw McTague become a two-time IWLCA Second-Team All-American, a two-time NCAC Midfielder of the Year, a three-time First-Team All-Great Lakes Region selection and a three-time First-Team All-NCAC honoree. She was also the 2019 NCAC Newcomer of the Year, was a member of the 2021 NCAA All-Tournament Team when the Big Red advanced to the Final Four for the first time in program history, and was named to the 2022 NCAC All-Tournament Team.
Following the season this year, McTague was selected to participate in the 2022 Division III North-South Senior All-Star Game, where she was named Most Valuable Player after scoring four goals and adding two draw controls and two groundballs in 10-9 win for the South All-Stars.
During McTague's time in Granville, Denson won NCAC Regular-Season Championships and NCAC Tournament Championships in both 2019 and 2021, advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in both 2019 and 2022, and played in the Final Four for the first time in program history in 2021.
As an education major, McTague holds a 3.88 cumulative GPA at Denison. She is a three-time NCAC Academic Honor Roll selection and a three-time Denison Top-50 Scholar-Athlete, was a 2021 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recipient, and was inducted into Denison's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma Class in 2020-21. Additionally at Denison's 2021-22 James T. Glerum '82 Top-50 Scholar-Athlete Honors Celebration, McTague was honored with the NCAC Scholar-Athlete Award.
McTague's campus involvement includes helping with the Tri Delta Sorority St. Jude's Children's Hospital Philanthropy Event, Go Soccer and Girls On the Run 5k.
One of 13 repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division III women's at-large team this year, McTague is now Denison's 108th total Academic All-American® in school history.
