OBERLIN, Ohio (May 5, 2022) – Highlighted by Keanan Ginell's conference title in the 10,000 meter run in the final event of the day, Denison University men's track & field currently sits in first place after the opening day of action at the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted at Oberlin College. Totaling 55 points through seven events, the Big Red lead second-place Wabash College (47 points) by eight points while DePauw University is third with 42 points.

After beginning the meet in second place thanks to Jacob Brown's conference championship in the decathlon on Sunday, Denison ended the day on Thursday with the victory in the 10,000 meter run by Ginell (31:59.07), who along with a third-place finish by Nathan Bertman (32:14.77), earned 16 points for the Big Red to overtake Wabash for first place.

Denison's first all-conference performance of the day came from Zackary Johnston in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as he took third place with a time of 9:39.59.

In the field events, Denison scored 13 points in the long jump as Jack Blais (6.66 meters) earned all-conference with a second-place finish while Angelo Ricci (6.47 meters) was sixth and Brown (6.45 meters) was seventh.

The other field event the Big Red scored points in on Thursday was the shot put, which saw Collin Hill (14.02 meters) finish fourth while Owen Mathes (13.46 meters) was sixth and Chris Slater (13.00 meters) was eighth.

In the prelims of the 110 meter hurdles, Charlie Webb (15.27 seconds) qualified in first place while Brown (15.84 seconds) was sixth and Ari Skolnik (16.03 seconds) was seventh. Webb then followed that up with a second-place finish and a time of 56.35 seconds in the 400 meter hurdle prelims.

In the 400 meter dash prelims, Malik Holley was fourth with a time of 51.01 seconds before he finished fifth in the 200 meter dash prelims at 22.25 seconds.

Other qualifying times for Denison on Thursday included Seven Lindsey (11.22 seconds) with a sixth-place finish in the 100 meter dash and Calvin Bailey (1:58.14) in sixth place in the 800 meter run.
