GRANVILLE, Ohio (May 17, 2022) – The Denison University men's and women's track & field teams will continue their final push to qualify for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships this week. Denison sent three athletes to compete at the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet at Widener University on Monday while
Jacob Brown competed at the North Central College Combined Events Qualifier on Monday and Tuesday.
SWARTHMORE LAST CHANCE MEET: At the Swarthmore Last Chance Meet held at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania,
Keanan Ginell finished 16th in the 5,000 meter run with a new personal record and the fourth fastest time on Denison's top-10 list for the event at 14:50.29.
In the women's 800 meter run,
Erin Anderson finished 10th with a time of 2:15.44, which was her second time running 2:15 in the event in a span of four days.
Lastly,
Charlie Webb finished in third place in the 110 meter hurdles (15.47 seconds) and was eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (55.43 seconds).
NORTH CENTRAL COLLEGE COMBINED EVENTS QUALIFIER: During the decathlon competition at the North Central College Combined Events Qualifier in Naperville, Illinois, Denison sophomore
Jacob Brown once again broke the school record, this time accumulating 6,211 points and finishing second overall. Brown now ranks 21st in all of NCAA Division III for the decathlon, and will learn his fate for nationals on Friday, May 20.
Brown finished fourth in the 100 meter dash (11.45 seconds), third in the long jump (6.61 meters), first in the shot put (11.83 meters), tied for fifth in the high jump (1.76 meters), and third in the 400 meter dash (54.24 seconds) on Monday.
Then on Tuesday, he was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles (16.08 seconds), third in the discus (30.73 meters), fifth in the pole vault (3.50 meters), first in the javelin (48.17 meters), and first in the 1,500 meter run (4:43.35).
NEXT UP: Denison athletes will compete in their final chance to qualify for the outdoor championships at the University of Mount Union on Wednesday, May 18, and Thursday, May 19, in Alliance, Ohio. Wednesday's competition at Mount Union will feature the hammer and javelin with all the other events slated for Thursday.
