Jacob Brown wins NCAC Decathlon with new school record

OBERLIN, Ohio (May 1, 2022) – Denison University's Jacob Brown placed first overall in the decathlon at the 2022 North Coast Athletic Conference Combined Events Championship held at Oberlin College on Sunday afternoon. Posting a new Denison school record score of 6,092 points, Brown landed 304 points ahead of the next closest competitor, Daniel Jansen of DePauw University (5,788).

After earning two event victories and setting two new personal records on Saturday, Brown finished with three more event wins and two more personal records on Sunday.

Brown's Sunday started with a win in the 110 meter hurdles, where he clocked in first with a new personal record of 15.50 seconds, just .01 seconds ahead of Giovanni Zappala (15.51 seconds) of Wabash.

Brown finished third in the discus with a mark of 30.89 meters and was fourth in the pole vault at 3.35 meters.

In the final two events of the decathlon, Brown closed out the win in style by winning the javelin (44.02 meters) and then winning the 1,500 meter run with a new personal record time of 4:49.58.

In the end, Brown's point total broke a Denison school record that stood for 19 years, surpassing the mark of 5,712 points set by Andy Stomwall in 2003.

NEXT UP: Brown and the Big Red will return to Oberlin, Ohio, later this week for the North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Oberlin College on Thursday, May 5, and Friday, May 6.
