Men’s track & field begins outdoor season at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. (April 2, 2022) – The Denison University men's track & field team began its 2022 outdoor campaign by competing during the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University this weekend.

FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Freshman Tyler Miller made his Denison track & field debut by finishing in third place in the high jump (Group B) with a mark of 1.90 meters (6-2¾).

Another freshman making his Big Red debut on Friday was Andrew D'Asaro, who finished seventh in the javelin at 54.54 meters (178-11).

After a strong indoor track & field season that saw him finish in fifth place in the shot put at the North Coast Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship, freshman Collin Hill took eighth place in the shot put in his outdoor opener on Friday with a long throw of 13.30 meters (43-7¾).

Denison got a pair of 11th-place finishes from freshman Liam Quinlan (1.80 meters) in the high jump (Group B) and senior Keanan Ginell (15:23.75; top NCAA DIII finisher) in the 5,000 meter run.

In the hammer throw, Porter Fitzgerald led the way for the Big Red with a 15th-place finish and a new personal best mark of 37.98 meters (124-7).

SATURDAY HIGHLIGHTS
Saturday saw a pair of top-10 performances from sophomore Jacob Brown (16.42 second; 7th place) and freshman Ari Skolnik (17.04 seconds; 9th place) in the 110 meter hurdles (Participation).

Junior Charlie Webb put together strong performances in the 400 meter hurdles (55.20 seconds; 13th place) and the 110 meter hurdles (15.32 seconds; 14th place), and was the only NCAA Division III runner in the afternoon finals for both races.

Lastly, in the discus, junior Gabe Springer set a new personal best at 44.50 meters (146-0) and finished eighth to earn Denison's third top-8 finish in the throwing events over the weekend.
