SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (February 26, 2022) – Highlighted by another conference championship by the NCAC Men's Distance Runner of the Year
Keanan Ginell, combined with all-conference performances by
Charlie Webb,
Chris Slater and the 4x200 meter relay squad on Saturday, Denison University men's track & field finished fourth overall at the NCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Big Red ended the weekend with 84 total points, landing only three points behind third-place Wittenberg (87) and only four points behind second-place Wooster (88). Only 10 points separated the second through fifth place teams while Wabash (151.50 points) ran away with the title.
After beginning the day tied for first place with 34 points through five events, Denison got points from Slater (15.80 meters; 2nd place) in the weight throw and
Jacob Brown (12.61 meters; 8th place) in the triple jump, but dropped to sixth place in the standings following the field events.
Denison then moved back up to fifth place with 47 points following its all-conference finish (3rd place) in the 4x200 meter relay by
Malik Holley,
Jairus Branch,
Travis Dunson and Webb.
Worth Hinshaw (4:22.26) finished in fifth place in the one mile run, but the Big Red still fell back to sixth place before a huge showing in the 60 meter hurdle finals vaulted them into second place with 66 points.
Webb (8.64 seconds) finished second in the 60 meter hurdle finals to earn all-conference while
Ari Skolnik (8.85 seconds) was fifth and Brown (8.94 seconds) was right behind him in sixth.
Unfortunately, the men fell back to fourth place in the standings before Holley (22.67 seconds) took fifth in the 200 meter dash finals, and then Ginell did what Ginell does best, win distance races as he won the 3,000 meter run with a time of 8:36.67 and brought home his second NCAC title of the meet after also winning the 5,000 meter run on Friday.
In the 3,000 on Saturday, Ginell finished ahead of the same runner he did in the 5,000, Logan Meyer (8:39.50) of Allegheny, moving Denison into third place with 80 points and only one event to go.
Unfortunately, the group of Holley,
Jack Blais, Brown and Webb finished fifth in the 4x400 meter relay as Denison moved back to finish in fourth place.
